Why exactly 8×8 cm?

The Trade Marks Rules cap the representation of a device mark at 8 cm by 8 cm, and the IP India e-filing portal only takes that representation as a JPEG. Miss either constraint and the portal either rejects the upload or silently distorts the mark. This tool builds a file that satisfies both in one pass, including the resolution tag most manual resizes leave out.

Questions about the image requirement

 

What's the maximum image size for a device mark in India?
The representation of your mark must not exceed 8 cm in width or height, submitted as a JPEG through the e-filing portal. Marks that arrive larger, or in the wrong format, are a common cause of formality objections.
Does this tool upload my logo anywhere?
No. Every step — decoding, trimming, resizing and re-encoding — happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Nothing about an unfiled mark should leave your machine, and this tool never makes a network request with your image data.
How does a JPEG file "remember" that it's 8 cm?
JPEG files carry a small header that can store a print density (dots per centimetre). This tool calculates that density from your chosen resolution and pixel count and writes it into the file, so any viewer that reads print size reports the mark as sitting inside the 8×8 cm box.
My artwork is a PDF or sits on a letterhead — what do I do?
Export or screenshot just the mark as an image first (PNG works well for crisp edges), then drop that image in here. The auto-trim option will clean up any stray white space left around it.
Do I have to file my logo in colour?
No — you can file in black and white or in colour, but colour claimed at filing generally limits your registered rights to that specific colour combination. Many applicants file in black and white for broader protection; check with a trademark professional if you're unsure which is right for your mark.
