What is the Threat Report?

When you run a Full Search before filing, you get a long list of similar-looking marks — but a list doesn't tell you which ones actually matter. Most similar marks are dead, abandoned, or otherwise harmless; a few are real obstacles. The Threat Report does that triage for you.

Select the 5–7 results that look closest to your proposed mark and Dexin returns, for each one, a decisive verdict: will it block your mark from being granted, on what legal ground, how confident the assessment is, and what you should do about it.

What each mark is checked for

For every result you select, the engine answers the questions an attorney would ask before worrying about a conflict:

• Is it still alive? Expired past restoration, removed, abandoned, refused, or withdrawn marks are flagged as low or no threat.
• Was the exam reply filed? A mark whose examination report went unanswered and lapsed rarely blocks anyone.
• Will the examiner cite it? A likelihood that the mark shows up in your examination search report.
• Section 11 conflict strength — phonetic, visual and conceptual similarity weighed against how close the goods/services are.
• Section 9 risk — a set-level read on whether your own mark looks descriptive or non-distinctive, surfaced once across the selection.
• Is the mark actually in use? For the cases where it changes the verdict (e.g. an old registration that may be vulnerable to non-use cancellation), a live web check informs the call.

The verdicts

Each selected mark comes back as one of five clear verdicts, with a confidence level, the statutory basis, and a recommended next step:

Live Threat	A real, enforceable obstacle — likely to be cited or to ground an opposition.
Dying / Weak	Alive on paper but vulnerable — e.g. lapsing, or registered long ago with no apparent use.
Contingent	Still in prosecution — its threat depends on whether it itself gets registered.
Not a Threat	Dead, abandoned, or too dissimilar to obstruct your mark.
Not Hostile	Owned by the same proprietor as your mark — no conflict.

How to run a Threat Report

   Run a Full Search and select the closest marks

   Tick the checkboxes for the 5–7 results that look most similar to your proposed mark, then click Threat Report in the results toolbar.

   Confirm your mark, class, and the credit cost

   Dexin pre-fills your proposed mark and class (both editable) and shows the cost — 10 credits per selected result.

   Let it work — and get it by email

   Dexin pulls each mark's live status and documents and runs the analysis in the background. You can close the tab: the finished report appears in the app and is always emailed to you.

Credits

A Threat Report costs 10 credits per selected result — so a 6-mark report is 60 credits. You're charged when the report is generated, never just for starting one: if a fetch stalls or fails, you aren't billed for it.
